Creating coasters
Think about a time you’ve been to a good friend’s house and they’ve handed you a glass of lemonade. If they care about their furniture, you may even remember the fun or sentimental coaster that you set that glass on top of. If you have an inkjet printer, you can actually make your own coaster. What do you need to create your own coasters? You will need blank fabric coasters, a few sheets of iron-on transfer paper and an inkjet printer. Blank fabric coasters can be found from a number of different retailers online or at your local crafting store. Iron-on transfer paper can be found in most electronic or computer related stores, as well as online.
What do you want on your coaster? Well, inkjet printers print on iron-on transfer paper with very high quality, so you can basically print whatever you want. Think about all the graphics you could put on your coaster—your favorite sports team logo, your favorite animal or your favorite city.
Want to get real fancy? You could print personalized coasters with photos too. You could put pictures of family, friends or that special someone. You could make each of the coasters the same, or you could make each coaster look different. The great thing about inkjet printers is that you have freedom to basically do whatever you want.
After you’ve chosen what you want to be on the coaster, you can print it onto the iron-on transfer paper. You may want to try a test sheet to make sure everything’s aligned properly. Do this with plain paper instead of the iron-on transfer paper, because plain paper costs a lot less.
Though making these coasters for yourself will probably be a lot of fun, don’t forget that coasters would make great gifts too.
